I was impressed with the number of projects that were presented at the Idea Fair. I appreciated the TSS notebook of all the ideas. Several of our new teachers attended, won door prices, and brought back ideas for their classroom. I plan to use the electronic dart board idea in my classroom next year.

Time Management
I have all these great ideas swimming around in my head. The problem isn't coming up with new ideas. It's not the reluctance to try those ideas that I know can reach those kids that need a fresh look. For me, it's the finding time to put it all together and not getting caught up in my old comfort zone. I need an assistant!!

Comment on M. Tate
The workshop w/ Mrs. Tate was informative and fun.
Many of her strategies I have been using for several years. I am currently working hard to integrate music into our daily routine. I love the idea of using music as a "timer" of sorts. As we are employing three part openers, work session, and closing into our daily lesson plans here at Jordan a signal for each has become pretty important.
I also struggle with a small physical space and lots of bodies so the kinesthetic component is one that I am still "brainstorming!"

After hearing Marcia Tate and using her book "Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites", how are you using the brain based strategies in your classroom to promote student engagement?

Marcia Tate-Engaging learners
I really enjoyed Marcia Tate. I am currently trying to incorporate the strategies that will help my students to learn best. I have used music, movement, story telling, games, munemonic devices in my classroom and discussed them with my new teachers.
21st Century Mentor's Handbook-Kathi Rue
I enjoyed Kathi and her enthusiasm. She often modeled how we need to approach our new teachers and be aware of their challanges and concerns. I have since shared the 21st Century
Mentor's Handbook with our new teachers.

Marcia Tate: Brain Based Learning
The session with Marcia was wonderful, I truly enjoyed the hands on activities that Marcia shared with us. I wish I had the time to sit down and totally rebuild my whole class and utilize all of the cool techniques that we saw. I guess for now that I will just have to settle for revamping a lesson at a time. I have taken several graduate level courses that were based on how the brain works and they are always so interesting. The funny thing is that I see myself in half of the examples that they give when they talk about the classes that are all written and boring. I was the student who had a difficult time focusing in class and keeping on task. I learned the hard way how to do different things to help myself focus. I wish that more of my teachers had practiced this when I was in school. If they had there is no telling what else I could have been successful at. I definitely plan on utilizing these skills in my classroom.
